How Feeling “Ugly” Can Help You Prosper

I divided my ring finger into the three standard zones: upper, middle and bottom.
The middle zone of the ring finger, when it is the strongest of the three zones, represents the material aspects of creativity. These can include design in many forms (clothing, furniture, jewelry) and arts & crafts.
When the middle zone of the ring finger on either hand is the smallest of the three zones or has a “waisted” effect as my middle zone does, it means that the person is going through or went through an ugly duckling stage during their teen years.
What makes this aspect so very challenging is that the “ugly duckling” can only see their flaws, real or imagined. The lack of perceived ‘beauty’ in their own ‘physical design,’ i.e. their face and body, becomes all-consuming, crowding out other positive features, talents and skills. As a result, the “ugly” obsession often materializes externally, leaving the teenager to be ridiculed and excluded by their peers for being “ugly,” different or just plain weird.
So what is an ugly duckling in recovery to do? For me, it meant recovering from years of downplaying my physical appearance with black, baggy clothes and no makeup. In the past four years, I have found the best fabric colors, hair style, and jewelry designs to enhance my unique sensibilities.
In order to turn the ugly duckling years into an asset, it means claiming your beauty and reveling in it. No more hiding, no more excuses. I’ve integrated my color schemes into my web design, my home design and my wardrobe. The ugly duckling ain’t such a bad “designer” after all.
And THAT, my friends, is how the ugly duckling becomes a swan… by singing her song, strutting her stuff and getting HELP with areas that are uncomfortable. So, if you’re not sure how to wear your hair or makeup or are a fashion disaster, get some help and let yourself shine!

Are You A Big Shot? 3 Sure-Fire Signs

Let’s start at the beginning. Kim DeYoung showed up in Tucson for my Tall Poppy Private Platinum Program after her initial hand analysis session knowing her Life Purpose (from her fingerprint patterns) is: “Successful Passionate Creative in the Community Spotlight.” In other words, Kim is a “big shot.”
You may be a big shot, too. Let’s find out if the 3 sure-fire signs of the big shot apply to you.
BIG SHOT Sure-Fire Sign #1: You Play SMALL SHOT
There are lots of big shots lurking around, hiding out in the shadows, playing “small shot.” How did Kim play small shot? Bear in mind that BIG SHOT means doing BIG things in a BIG way, not small things in a tiny way. But big shots play small until they just can’t stand the frustration of zippo results one day longer. So Kim was trying to pick up clients one by one by one. This approach is akin to an elephant trying to fill its belly on a handful of peanuts. A tasty snack, but no satisfaction.
BIG SHOT Sure-Fire Sign #2: You Are Concerned With Being TOO BIG and Showing People Up
When I confronted Kim about this, her Life Lesson reared its Medusa head and said, “Well, what will I tell people when I change course?” Kim’s Life Lesson is “emotional authenticity.” She is learning to express herself authentically regardless of the expectations of others. I said, “Uh huh. I realize that you are speaking from the illusion of your Life Lesson, but nevertheless, who CARES what anybody thinks? Who are you REALLY explaining your choices to?” Hmmm…. a hush fell over our conversation. (Mind you, this is the SAME conversation that comes up again and again - that’s the nature of our lesson - it’s our lesson for LIFE. We simply get more skilled at nipping it in the bud before it escalates into a full-blown melt-down.)
“Kim, if you weren’t concerned about the opinions of others and you decided to think really, really BIG, what would you do?” I’m paraphrasing Kim’s response here when she said, “I would help metromoms connect, create and succeed - both at home and at work.” How? “By bringing them together in various venues and helping them discover their own power and magic so that they can grow businesses that give them more fun, more income, and more time with their kids.” Now that’s a benefit-laden offer if there every was one - especially if you’re a metromom. (A “metromom” is a suburban or urban mother who is a fun, forward-thinking new or established business owner seeking to create extra income working from home, on her own terms.)
BIG SHOT Sure-Fire Sign #3: When You Seize The BIG IDEA and Decide To Make It Real, You Become Unstoppable
Once Kim got over feeling she owed anybody an explanation, she realized she wanted to create a business membership association with over 2500 members in the next six months. Yowza! She left Tucson about a month ago with her Big Shot Plan in her hot, big shot hands. In LESS THAN THREE WEEKS, she had her web site in the design phase, the copy being handled by a copywriter and mailing list research underway to find the metromoms seeking the community and connection that Kim, BIG SHOT KIM, is so talented at providing.

3 Strategies For Leveraging The Opportunity Markers In Your Hands

I’m often asked, with hands discretely hidden under the tablecloth or tucked into pockets, “Beth, do you ever see anything bad in the hands?” My answer is always the same: “No.” Other hand analysts might disagree, but my philosophy is this: Since you can choose whatever you want to believe, how about believing that everything, and I do mean everything, is an expression of life offering you an opportunity to learn, grow and discover more about your authentic self?
Today, I’m going to focus on three types of markers in the hands and how each offer an opportunity to grow. At first glance, you may want to categorize the marker as “good” or “bad” but that creates opposition and resistance (as well as fear of the “good” or “bad” thing happening/not happening). Basically, what you see is what you CHOOSE to see.
1. Challenge Markers: Effort Leads To Breakthroughs
Let’s pull this tooth out first - and quickly. Challenge markers can slow us down, bind us up, and generally present obstacles to goals we are attempting to achieve, whether it be greater health, a new love relationship, or completing a business project.
Horizontal lines on the hand, other than the heart and head lines, present energy obstructions to foward movement. X’s, boxes, islands, and grills (these look like tic-tac-toe boxes) are other forms of energy obstruction.
This type of marker is trying to get our attention. “Look over here,” it says. If you are aware of this challenge on your life path, you can make accommodations for it. For example, let’s say you have a grill under your middle finger on your palm. Grills indicate one foot on the gas and one foot on the break. Underneath the middle finger, this indicates that you may run into contractual challenges, especially with family members. In order to remedy this, be sure to run agreements by your lawyer, discuss all the finer points and make sure both parties understand the agreement before signing it.
These types of markers stretch us in areas where we are not comfortable and hence, either avoid altogether or jump into hastily and have to clean up later. The opportunity here is to face the challenge boldly and gather up the support you need to move through it. You probably won’t become a master in this area, but nothing is impossible! Effort leads to breakthroughs.
2. Talent Markers: But Are You Using It?
The only “bad” thing about having a talent is not knowing you have it - or worse, knowing that you have it and deliberately NOT using it! (Happens ALL the time.) Talent markers imply you have a special ability. For example, a ring on the palm, encircling the base of your pointer finger, indicates X-ray vision. It’s called Solomon’s Ring after wise King Solomon. You can see the BIG picture as well as the power-plays happening behind the scenes, even if you don’t know that many details about the situation. The opportunity here, of course, is to use the X-ray vision. If you don’t, well, you might find that you are chronic “small thinker” and can’t figure out why nothing exciting seems to be happening for you. Dare to dream big.
Three or more talent markers in your hands and you are officially a “Man or Woman of Wisdom.”
3. Gift Markers
Gift markers are similar to talent markers in that they confer a special ability upon their owner. However, gift markers carry with them a penalty if you don’t use the gift. In other words, if you’re using the gift, you’re avoiding the penalty. If you’re avoiding the gift, you’re in the penalty box. Richard Unger has identified 14 gift markers in the hands. Some hands have many gift markers and other hands have none. If you have a gift, the opportunity is to use it and discover that you do, in fact, have quite an ability - perhaps as a healer, speaker, writer, clairvoyant, warrior, or shaman. If you don’t use the gift, the penalty creates resistance. The resistance is saying, “Choose another path and use your gift.”
No matter what the marker reveals, if you embrace it, you grow and flourish. If you resist it, you struggle unnecessarily. THAT is why there is nothing “bad” in the hands (or in your life!). You can choose to embrace what puts you teetering on the edge of your comfort zone. The alternative to that is stagnation. And that really is “bad.”

It Really IS Do or Die! I’m not kidding… but it’s fun, too!

However, once you make the decision to FEEL the discomfort and DECIDE to live your Life Purpose, no matter what, do or die… only then can you begin to experience what you want. You have to BE the person you want to attract - whether for love, business or friendship. If you have a hole inside, nothing can fill it - not money, not love, not possessions.
What can fill it? Knowing you are a child of the Universe, with a unique Life Purpose that only you can fulfill. If you’re worrying about the bills, your health, your relationships, you have NO FAITH in a source greater than yourself and are probably doomed to the same crap over and over. So go ahead and defend it if you want to… I have compassion for your struggle, but not for your story. Please, I beg of you, if any of what I’m saying resonates with you, stop telling that old story today. Don’t tell one more person your sad tales of woe. No one is interested and you’re only reinforcing the crap you want to release (”crap” is such an all-purpose word!). Stop telling me about how you need to pay the bills, appease your husband or your boss, find a quick fix or some quick cash. It’s the wrong path, the right desire. You are aiming to rid yourself of that which ails you… but it’s pretty impossible to do if that’s all you FOCUS your ATTENTION on. Look where you WANT to go - NOT where you don’t want to go. Drive AROUND the tree!
Yeah, I had one of those days where several people wanted to tell me why they didn’t have what they wanted and then defend it to me. That’s fine… if that’s what you WANT to do… but it’s not - not really, is it? Your EGO has one job - to keep you alive. It will use anything in its power - fear, manipulation, panic attacks - to stop you moving forward.
Good news! Research reveals (see the current brain series on PBS Television) that the brain is more plastic than previously thought. Good thoughts AND bad thoughts, thought repeatedly, over and over, carve channels into the brain. The more you think whatever you think, the more the brain goes to town to make sure you think it even more. So better keep those thoughts clean, eh? People say positive affirmations ‘don’t work’ because they don’t believe them. Of course you don’t believe them… until you’ve said them enough times that you DO believe them. It’s called positive brainwashing. You were brainwashed as a child to trust your senses over your COMMON SENSE - which comes from God, the Divine, Higher Mind, Infinite Intelligence - and now you’d rather believe that money (or whatever) is difficult to obtain rather than believing that we live in an Infinitely Abundant Universe. Do you make the oak tree grow? Think about it…
(And if you think someone didn’t knock me upside the head to see this… think again. I ALWAYS select mentors who call me on my b.s. Otherwise, it’s a snow job in hell…. Ooooh, I’m on fire tonight! Off to dance for an hour or so to let out some of this spicy energy!!!)

My Back Was Against The Wall

And if you know me very well (through my newsletter, hand readings or online products and services), this might not be what you’d expect from me…
I talk about building relationships. I help people find their Life Purpose and their worldly vision.
I mean, I don’t even like violent movies.
But there is a disease out there, and I am a little worked up about it…
I’m talking about a spirit-killing disease… and stuff that once took me to the brink—not to mention the unbelievable strain that it put on my personal life.
Before I tell you what this “disease” is, or how I found a cure that restored not only my personal life, but my dignity as well, I’d like to tell you what brought these memories back for me…
You see, I’ve had my world rocked in the last few weeks.
Just a few weeks ago, I started a contest on THIS Life Purpose Blog that I thought would really spice things up.

Before I knew it, my imagination had transported me to a place that I hadn’t been in many years…
And then I started to get MAD.
Now let’s be clear… I am NOT mad at the people who posted comments… no, I salute your spirit, desire, zeal, fortitude and your hard work.
No… I got MAD at the dream stealers and naysayers that stood in these people’s way. The people that discouraged them every step of the way. The people who sold them worthless goods and services. The members of their own tribe that told them they will never succeed. I got mad at all the false promises and hopes that had stood in their way.
You See, I Can Vividly Remember When I Was
In That Place…
When I was starting out, just trying to find some way to provide for myself. I remember feeling like a “deer in the headlights”, not knowing what to do next.
You see I wasn’t always a successful teacher and healer. But I am getting ahead of myself. It all started about ten years ago when I was about 29 years old, and I’ll admit it…
“Back Then I Had One Of Those J-O-Bs”
Ten years ago, I was a frustrated and depressed office worker, struggling to find meaning in my work.
I WAS MISERABLE.
One day, after making a presentation to my boss demonstrating why I deserved a raise for increased knowledge and responsibilities, he smiled and said to me, “Beth, that was an excellent presentation, but you’ll be lucky if you’re making $40,000 per year five years from now.” I had to bite my tongue so I didn’t burst out laughing. (Even in my depression, I still had a sense of humor!) I knew I had to get out of that job pronto – but to do “what” instead?
And while I put on a bright face at work, I would come home to an empty apartment - I had nary a pet, plant or partner to greet me. I would cry myself to sleep, thinking, “There has to be more to life than simply working to pay bills and buy more stuff! There has to be a purpose to this life.”
I longed for meaning, purpose and passion. How could someone who wanted meaning so desperately seem to be so inept at finding it? My darkest hour came when I realized I had become suicidal. I was deep in the throes of a gripping and terrifying spiritual crisis (although I didn’t know that’s what it was at the time).
