The REAL Reason You Have Fear

I’ve been thinking about this question a lot lately: “What’s the REAL reason we have fear?” Why? Because I’ve been having more fear than usual. Why? I’m doing things that are new in my business and thus, I’m in unfamiliar territory.

You’ve probably heard these explanations for the root of your fear more than once:

·         You’re out of your comfort zone

·         You need more information

·         You fear the unknown

·         You lack courage

·         You lack focus

·         You lack self-confidence

And that’s just a short list!  While all of those reasons are potentially valid depending upon the situation, I’d like to dig a little deeper, using your fingerprints as our map through fear.

Your fingerprints reveal several aspects of your soul, and one of those aspects is your Life Lesson. Your Life Lesson is your blind spot, your gremlin, your nemesis, your “negative tapes.”

Your Life Lesson could be one or a combination of these issues:

·       panic caused by a life out of balance (everything is an *emergency*)

·       anxiety making decisions

·       not expressing your authentic feelings due to the perceived expectations of others

·       sacrificing yourself into burdensome obligation

·       lack of clarity about your definition of success

·       challenges owning your power in the world

·       challenges managing your energy, time and money

·       challenges expressing your creativity

·       challenges speaking up for your self

·       challenges with your family and community (on a life scale)

·       challenges finding your passion and dealing with victimization, shame and numbness

·       challenges finding your niche due to guilt (“If I succeed, it takes away from others.” THAT kind of guilt)

·       paralyzing fear of rejection

·       trust/surrender/intimacy issues with anything: other people, food, money, etc.

If you look at the above list, are there one or two Life Lessons that really stand out for you? My Life Lesson is “not expressing my authentic feelings due to the perceived expectations of others.” Sooooo… now I’m doing new and different things with my business – and what do I fear? You guessed it! I fear what other people think and feel about me. (I recognize I have no control over what others think and feel about me. But it doesn’t make my lesson any less painful for the knowing.)

If you follow any fear to its natural conclusion, the fear is a painful outcome - humiliation, shame, excommunication, torture, fire, starvation, annihilation, etc. You think I’m kidding? I’m not kidding. THAT’S why we get so afraid about making that important phone call, closing the sale, standing up to our mother or father or our children.

Our Life Lesson is the surface issue that trips us up – it acts, amazingly enough, as a PROTECTION mechanism. What lies below that surface issue is our fear of not surviving. Fear lives in our mid-brain or *reptile brain* and it runs on instinct. All our crocodile brain knows is that if you step into the “Life Lesson Zone,” something scary is going to happen.

And then the drama begins. You get distracted, you procrastinate, you have no money, you have no time… The drama is the crocodile brain’s way of keeping you from FACING your Life Lesson and hence, learning it. By not facing the Life Lesson, our crocodile brain achieves ITS goal of keeping us stuck. When we learn our Life Lesson, we actualize our Life Purpose

The 5 Biggest Misconceptions about Hand Analysis…and How to Avoid Them?

1. “You Don’t Really Believe in That Stuff, Do You?”
The ONLY people who say this are the people who know NOTHING about hand analysis. Don’t let this be you. (Yes, I admit it – this is my pet peeve question.) Only ignorance can cause a person to belittle something they know nothing about. (Please feel free to use this as comfort if you are ever confronted by unfounded derision toward something you love.)

As a hand analyst, I practice both an art that is over 5,000 years old and a science that is being updated daily as more and more is being discovered about the link between the brain and the hands. Frank Wilson, a well-regarded neuroscientist, studied hand analysis at the same school I did and he references our brilliant teacher, Richard Unger, in his book, aptly entitled, “The Hand.”

2. “Can You Tell Me How Long I’m Going to Live?”
No. I can’t. As a hand analyst, I don’t make predictions. You are the best prognosticator for your future. Your choices have the power to alter your course or keep it moving straight ahead. My job is to help you remember the essence of who you are, inspire you to reclaim your birth right, and empower you to live your life purpose without excuses or apologies. I’m not going to do you the disservice of planting a prediction in your head for you to obsess over. Where’s the power in that?

3. “You’re Not Going to Tell Me Anything Bad, Are You?”
For the record, there is nothing “bad” in the hands. I see everything as a positive. If you have a gift, that’s a positive. If you’re not using the gift, you’ll experience a challenge. As Richard Unger says, this challenge is merely an AFGO – “another f’in growth opportunity.” :-) It’s all about learning. To me, the only truly “bad” thing is to not learn from your successes and failures. To repeat unflattering behavioral patterns – now that’s bad.

4. “Do You Actually Earn a Living Doing This?”
Yes, I do. I currently have a six-figure 1ncome reading hands and then coaching my clients so they can utilize the hand analysis information pro-actively and practically in their everyday lives. I developed the coaching protocol on my own when clients saw me out again and again for understanding and clarity.

5. “You Went to School For This?!”
Yes, I studied for a year at the International Institute of Hand Analysis in Marin County, California to become a certified hand analyst. Sometimes people think I can see all that I do in a person’s hands because of something I learned during my travels abroad or that I have a special “gift.” If only it were that simple. It does require a love of human interaction and a curiosity about the human psyche, to be sure, but what has given me authority to reveal the intimate details in your life is your hands. And I had to study – and I continue to study – to stay on my toes.

Okay. Glad I got that off my chest. Thanks for reading.

Spirituality and Business: 3 Powerful Tips for Unleashing Your Intuition

If you really want to know “the secret,” access your business creativity and live your Life Purpose, there’s one jewel in your treasure chest you must dig out, polish up and wear proudly – the gem is your intuition. Without it, you are likely to be confused and looking to others for your own answers.

Now, that being said, it’s perfectly good and necessary to seek out spirituality and business knowledge from others. However, there is a difference between being a workshop junkie and being a truth seeker. The workshop junkie looks for the next quick fix of temporary, adrenaline-induced inspiration (quick to wear off), while the truth seeker looks within and asks, “Hey you, what do you really want to study and learn about next?” She then finds her next step – whether it be a new relationship, an enlightening book, a tele-class or a workshop (wisdom lasts a lifetime). What makes the difference between these two kinds of women entrepreneurs? One trusts their intuition and the other doesn’t. So, you may be asking, how do I TRUST my intuition more?

Here are three powerful tips for unleashing your intuition that I’ve discovered in my almost ten years experience as a hand analyst/palmist, and spirituality and business coach.

Tip #1: Trust the FIRST impression that comes.
Your impression could be a vision (psychic/clairvoyant), a disembodied voice (clairaudient), a gut feeling (intuition/kinesthetic response), or a simple ‘knowing’ that without explanation, forethought or planning, ‘flashes’ into your mind.

With my visual psychic/clairvoyant ability, I see imagery either “inside” my mind or “outside” my mind as if on an invisible movie screen. For example, many years ago, I was at a friend’s party giving short palm readings to the guests. As one woman sat down in front of me, I saw twelve angels around her. The angels weren’t visible in the way that she was – I saw them energetically and could feel their energy in the physical space with us. Curious and a wee bit nervous, I said, “Are you aware that you have twelve angels walking around with you?” She said, cool as a cucumber, “Oh, yes,” and then proceeded to tell me some of their names!

Tip #2: Ask your heart for spirituality and business intuition.
Close your eyes and put your right hand over your heart. Breathe in and out slowly, feeling the rhythm of your heart beat. Then quietly ask your heart, “Heart, what do you want right now?” Since your heart processes emotion, NOT thoughts, it will usually respond with a simple, one- or two-word “feeling” answer such as “love,” “forgiveness,” “patience,” “action,” etc. You will probably hear these answers in your head, in your own voice.

Usually my heart answers, “I want peace and joy.” However tonight, while writing this article, my heart gave me the longest answer ever. My heart said, “Baeth, stop pushing yourself. I want you to be kind and gentle to yourself. Take care of yourself and do those things that make you feel pretty and happy.” Pretty and happy? Never got that one before. Wow, I guess I have my homework!

Tip #3: Build your self-esteem.
In her book, Anatomy Of The Spirit, the great energy medicine expert, Caroline Myss wrote, “How we feel about ourselves, whether we respect ourselves, determines the quality of our life, our capacity to succeed in business, relationships, healing, and intuitive skills [emphasis mine]. Self-understanding and acceptance, the bond we form with ourselves, is in many ways the most crucial spiritual challenge we face. In truth, if we do not like ourselves, we will be incapable of making healthy decisions. Instead, we will direct our personal power for decision-making into the hands of someone else. Someone whom we want to impress or someone before whom we think we must weaken ourselves to gain physical security. People who have a low sense of self-esteem attract relationships and occupational situations that reflect and reinforce this weakness.” (This lack of self-esteem is the #1 reason why women entrepreneurs don’t use their intuition.)

After reading thousands of hands, I believe that the “Life Lesson” of humanity involves self-esteem issues. If you doubt yourself, how are you going to trust something as subtle, fast and laser sharp as your intuition? Having good self-esteem is vital to harnessing the power of your intuition. And here’s the catch: If you ask and don’t listen, your intuitive awareness may go into hibernation. If you ask and listen, but don’t ACT, you create stagnation, procrastination and all sorts of spirituality and business ills.

What Does It REALLY Take To Have A Successful Business?

“What does it really take to have a successful business?” I’ve thought about this question so many times and my answer sometimes shifts, based upon where I am on my own journey. However, after nine years in business, I’ve discovered several factors that remain the same.

YOU Are Your Business

“Who are you?” sang Roger Daltrey of the rock band, “The Who.”

I was speaking with a new member of my Phenomenal Women Coaching Circle the other day and I asked her why she applied to my group, over all the other options available to her. “Beth, you do know that YOU are your business, right? You bring your full self to everything you do. You are authentic, you are YOU. I want to model that energy for my own business. I want to be more of who I REALLY am and bring that authentic expression into my business.”

What she said lingered. I am not perfect. I get overwhelmed, drop the ball, and forget to do things just like everyone else. Not every client is a good fit and many people have no interest in or understanding about what I do. What a revelation. I don’t have to be perfect – just myself!

YOUR CLIENTS Are Your Business

In essence, the first step to a successful business is being your authentic self. This means loving and appreciating who you are and what you do. The second step is recognizing that being true to your soul attracts IDEAL clients. Your clients and customers are the center, the very core of your business. Your business is not your products, your services or your equipment. Your business is your clients and customers.

Are you in touch with your clients in a systematized way? Do you let them know what you are up to? Do you regularly survey them on what they want from you? Another Phenomenal Women Coaching Circle member recommended this book (which inspired this article), The Referral of a Lifetime by Tim Templeton. It is a powerful story about attracting and retaining ideal clients without being salesy or pushy. If you follow the simple system laid out in the book, you will not only attract more clients, but very likely, fall more in love with the magnificence of YOU. I would also add that this book is a great reminder for putting your clients and customers first – especially if you’ve been in a business a long time.

Find Your Voice and Express Your Truth = “The Original Professional”

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve probably noticed that lately I’ve been coming out with more and more of my spiritual discoveries and spiritual tools. Tomorrow, I’m offering another free channeling call because the last call was an off-the-charts hit. I’m listening to you -and what you are telling me you want more of. And here’s the interesting thing – what you are telling me is essentially this, “Beth, the more you are fully you, sharing your detailed, inner experience, the more of it I want!” That is the paradox. In being vulnerable and daring, I’m actually giving you, my client, permission to do the same.

In leading the way, my courage gives others permission to shine. These leaders, in turn, empower other leaders by speaking their truth.

If you find yourself asking yourself, “What is MY message?,” I will tell you what I’ve learned from reading thousands of hands – your message is what you hold most dear. Your message is what you do naturally and effortlessly throughout the day. Are you fanatical about fitness? There’s a message. In love with ancient religions and rituals?

Another message. Secretly channeling divine guidance and Source Energy like me? I bet there’s a message in there somewhere.

In a nutshell: BE passionately yourself, passionately connect with your customers and clients and passionately speak YOUR truth (about EVERYTHING – your rates, your services, your love for your clients and your love for what you do – no apologies, no excuses!!!). You will be amazed at the results.

Bonus Tip: STOP apologizing. No more prefacing things with, “Well, I only had a few minutes to put this together,” or “Gee, I don’t think this is very good, but here goes…” Stop, Stop, Stop! First of all, no one cares about your whiney excuses. Second of all, you diminish your power and cause the listener to diminish your message since you’ve effectively said, “Don’t bother listening to me. I don’t take myself seriously, so why should you?” Got it! Good.

If you’re going to make a new year’s resolution, how about this one? “From this day forward, I speak my truth, my point of view, my message without reservation, without apology. I am a voice of love, power and truth. I am voice of reason, accountability and empowerment. My laser-sharp words wake people up and make them listen harder. As I take a stand for me, I embolden others to take a stand for themselves!” And then pause. Listen for your soul singing low and sweet with happiness to the sound of you coming home to yourself.

The Hand Analyst’s Palm Pilot Push Up for the week:

Who are YOU - Really? What are the “goods” of your business? The essence of you that sets you apart from all the others? If you could tell your clients and customers what you really think – the things you think when you’re alone at night sorting out your life and the mysteries of the day – what would you share to empower, inspire and embolden them? You know things in way only you can know them. Did you know that? “Go tell it on the mountain.” That’s the image: See yourself on the top of Mt. Everest, calling out your message to the world. It’s time. It’s always time to speak the truth. The world chokes on the weeds of untruth and comes alive with vibrant foliage when your magical words ring out.
